Farmers Applaud Senate Ag Committee Chairman Boozman for Excluding “Save Our Bacon Act” from Initial Farm Bill Draft

The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) applauds U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-Ark.) for confirming that the so-called “Save Our Bacon Act” will not be included in the initial draft of the Senate Farm Bill. Chairman Boozman’s decision is welcome news for Kansas farmers, ranchers, and independent producers across the country.

“We commend Chairman Boozman for listening to farmers and recognizing the substantial investments producers have already made to modernize their operations and meet market demands,” said Mike Schultz, founder of the Kansas Cattlemen’s Association and Vice President of the Organization for Competitive Markets. “Maintaining access to valuable markets, including California’s pork market, is critical for independent producers. At the same time, many farmers remain deeply concerned about the growing influence of foreign-owned corporations in American agriculture. Excluding the Save Our Bacon Act from the initial Farm Bill draft protects producer choice, preserves market opportunities, and supports the interests of rural America.”

Chairman Boozman’s announcement acknowledges the significant investments producers have already made to meet evolving consumer preferences and maintain access to key markets. Independent farmers have worked hard to adapt their operations and deserve policies that expand economic opportunities rather than protect the interests of multinational corporations with ties to foreign adversaries.

OCM remains committed to protecting independent producers, preserving fair and competitive markets, and ensuring that American agriculture remains in the hands of American farmers—not foreign-owned conglomerates seeking greater control over the nation’s food supply.
